WHAT IS ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING? Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a process of making three-dimensional solid objects from a digital model. AM uses additive processes that print successive layers of material to create different shapes. With the help of industry groups like the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), students are finding opportunities to develop skills needed to transition from high school to college to AM careers.

• Certificate of completion for 80 hours upon completion of Online courses and on-site experience

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY? All teachers interested in immersive STEM education with an emphasis on how to apply Additive Manufacturing in the classroom.

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT? Prior to the summer institute the four-week Online Professional Development Course (May 7 – June 1) helps you implement Design Thinking and use tools to build course curriculum that is tailored to your teaching style and your students. As a result teachers will have the opportunity to earn eight, continuing education units (CEUs) after the online course and on-site experience. In addition, participants are eligible to receive two
non-degree college credits for recertification through South Dakota State University ($80 fee). Teachers completing the summer institute are eligible to test for the SME Additive Manufacturing Fundamentals Certificate.
WHAT IS THE COST? Selected teachers will participate in P3 PD and the Summer Institute at no cost, receive materials, and a $1000 stipend. Seats are limited to 8 teachers.
