Design challenge brainstorm with the American Heart Association

In October, Battelle and the American Heart Association announced Ohio’s 2017-2018 statewide design challenge. This year, we’re tackling heart disease, a growing chronic problem faced by many Ohio students and families. Globally, projections show heart disease as the worldwide leading cause of death by 2030 (source).

The challenge to students: Work as a team to fight heart disease and help your community become heart healthy.

We commissioned Ohio students to give us their best thinking on how to solve the problem of heart disease. More than thirty-two schools have responded, from Lincoln-West Science and Health in Cleveland to DECA Prep in Dayton and many more.

We asked: “What resources do you need?” A single answer came back again and again. Teachers wanted health professionals to visit their schools and talk to students.

We heard you! In January, we’re hosting a brainstorming webinar with Erin Gliatta, Senior Director at the American Heart Association.

In this online session, Erin will talk us through the connections the Heart Association can offer, and think with you about the most effective approaches to bringing those professionals into your classrooms.

Attend and learn about the experts who can inspire your students. Explain what other information you need about heart health to build your school’s design challenge. Talk with us and other schools about how to collaborate.

We would love to see you online and hear your questions and ideas!
