Calling all future STEM schools, Ohio designation application is live

The  2020 STEM school designation application is now available. STEM designation demonstrates your school’s commitment to a culture of innovation. As a whole, Ohio’s network of more than 50 STEM schools serve more low income and minority students than Ohio’s average school. That diverse student body excels in class, graduating at higher rates than their peers, and they do more. Students at these school also complete internships, college courses, and problem-based learning experiences. If that sounds like your school, it’s time to join our network through the STEM designation process.

Schools interested in applying for designation and need to submit a letter indicating their intent to apply by Dec. 19, 2018 at 5 p.m.to [email protected]. The Ohio Department of Education organizes meetings of the Ohio STEM Committee and creates the official guidance for schools.

The Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN), which is managed by Battelle, provides resources and technical assistance to schools seeking designation. For starters, we’re hosting a webinar on December 18, 2018 at 3:30 p.m.  During the webinar, we will review the application, and answer your questions about the designation process.  Register here to participate in the webinar.

Our staff provides technical assistance to schools seeking designation. We are happy to schedule individual calls with schools as they work through the application. These technical assistance sessions are by request. To schedule, please send an email to [email protected].

We are happy to provide written feedback on proposal drafts.  This is a great way to make sure you’ve provided all the required information and identify any areas that need clarification and further development prior to officially submitting your application.  We need to know how many drafts to expect, so we ask that you let us know by January 15, 2019 to ensure we have plenty of readers available.
