Northwestern Middle School is a STEM Designated School preparing our students today for tomorrow’s opportunities! Our students learn through engaging, authentic, applied, project-based instruction. We believe in rigor, relevance, and relationships. Our rural, PreK-12 campus, small class sizes, and Students discover and learn through various high school credit courses such as French I, PreAlgebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Agricultural Science as well as STEM PLTW Gateway to Technology courses such as Medical Detectives 8, Engineering 8, Body Systems 6, Technology 6, Flight & Space 6, Science of Technology 7, Design & Modeling 8, Automation & Robotics 8, Energy & Environment 8, Magic of Electrons 8, Green Architecture 8.

We develop career exploration, career goals, and require an 8th grade capstone career project. We also house the district’s “Inspiration Station” Makerbox STEM Lab, which boasts a state-of-the-art research lab with CNC machine, CNC router, 3-D printer, robotics laser engraver, helicopter drones, GoPro camera, etc. Northwestern Middle School advances our elementary STEM programs for student success in our high school STEM programs and post-secondary partner STEM programs and has the distinction of being considered one of the most innovative and progressive middle schools in Ohio. With over 15% of our students enrolled from outside the district and more than 75% of students completing Algebra I or beyond prior to entering high school we have proven our success. Northwestern is affiliated with the Ohio STEM Learning Network, Battelle, Akron Regional STEM Region, Southern Regional Education Board, Making Middle Grades Work, BioOhio, NE Ohio Bioscience Consortium, as well as numerous area business and post-secondary partners which collaborates in demanding curriculum and rich program design. Northwestern cultivates student ownership for individualized learning universally for all students, across all disciplines, through student-centered, blended, rigorous instruction.
