Regional Organizations
In addition to the work taking place with the schools and programs mentioned on the left, the following regional organizations are working to build upon and scale up STEM-education initiatives in the Central Ohio Region:
Battelle
Battelle is a global science and technology enterprise headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1929, its purposes are to foster science and technology discovery, translate knowledge into innovative applications with societal and economic impact, and advance the education of men and women for employment. Battelle manages that OSLN and also serves as the intermediary to the Ohio Partnership for Continued Learning. For more information, visit www.battelle.org.
COSI
COSI is a hands-on discovery science center located in Downtown Columbus. COSI offers innovative educational programs to support national and statewide science curriculum and standards. In addition, COSI’s mission focuses on three areas including: early childhood education, family learning, and science education transformation. For more information, visit www.cosi.org.
Educational Council
Established in 1986, the Educational Council is a confederation of 16 public school districts in Franklin County, Ohio. The Educational Council’s work focuses one value proposition: “Helping educational systems personalize learning so each child can succeed.” In addition, three centers are offered at the Educational Council including: Center for Personalized Learning, Center for Learning Assets, and Center for Learning Partnerships. Metro High School
Metro High School is partnering with the Linden-McKinley STEM High School (LMSHS) to assist with targeted professional development and technical assistance in the design and launch of the school. They will also assist LMSHS with outreach and engagement across the Columbus City School district. Metro, a STEM high school located adjacent to The Ohio State University in Columbus, is one of Ohio’s flagship STEM schools. For more information, visit www.themetroschool.com.
The Battelle Center for Mathematics and Science Education Policy
The Battelle Center for Mathematics and Science Education Policy, housed in Ohio State’s John Glenn School of Public Affairs, works to develop policies and practices that will increase the number of students who are energized and prepared to be leaders in the STEM fields. The PAST Foundation
The PAST Foundation is a non-profit educational and research team that creates national projects in Anthropology reaching out and making their materials available to both students and the public. Founded in 2000, the PAST Foundation’s programs and projects span nationally and cover topics ranging from caving and marine ecosystems to forensics. TRECA
Tri-Rivers Educational Computer Association, a consortium of more than 40 Ohio School Districts primarily in Delaware, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Muskingum and Wyandot counties, is developing several rural STEM-education models. These include a Satellite Delivery Model, School-Within-A-School Delivery Model and Professional Development Delivery Model. For more information, visit www.treca.org.
